Our befriended club NKFC

Nottingham-Karlsruhe Friendshipclub

The club we are twinned with in Nottingham is called “Nottingham-Karlsruhe Friendshipclub” (NKFC). It was founded on 9/1/1982 in “Bell Inn” of Nottingham. Its aims are increasing the friendship with DEF by the mutually carried out annual visits, informing about Karlsruhe by exhibitions and lectures, regular meetings with discussion circles in German, assisting in putting up the twinning of schools, cultivating German customs and habits.

 

Arnie Butler, present 1.Chairman

Arnold Butler, (Arnie to all his friends) has been a member of the Nottingham Karlsruhe Friendship Club (NKFC for short) since October 1989 and was elected onto the committee in October 1995 then in October 2000 was nominated as Hon. Treasurer, this position he kept till October 2007 when he was elected as Chairman. Arnie’s position as chairman has been made easier having the full support of his wife Mary also the backing of a good committee.
Over the years Arnie has made many friends in Karlsruhe through the on going partnership of the DEF and the Nottingham Karlsruhe Friendship Club, our club celebrated its 25th anniverary in 2007 which also coincided with the DEF visit to Nottingham. In 2009 the DEF will celebrate its 30th Anniversary. The NKFC would like to congratulate passed and present committees of the DEF for their hard work in achieving this long standing partnership.

In 1995 Alma Shipman was awarded the “Citizen of Honour Awarde” of Nottingham for her merits in intensifying the twinning of the two cities.
